By 2014 Spain will have 61 concentrating solar thermal power plant

Recently, Protermosolar (Seville, Spain) announced that Spain currently has 4,293 square kilometers of concentrating solar thermal power plants (CSP), less than 1% of Spanish territory.
 
The trade organization said, a total of 61 concentrating solar thermal power plant will be into operation in 2014, a total installed capacity is 2.53 GW. The power plant covers an area of 112 square km, the estimated annual electricity output is 7.3 GWh.

Protermosolar pointed that concentrating solar thermal power plant and biomass is the only renewable which could be storage, even in the case of the sun is not abundant, but also could meet electricity demand.

At present, Spain has 21 power plants which have been put into operation, covering an area of 3002 hectares, generating capacity is 852 MW.

The other 27 power plants under construction, power generation reach to 1.30 GW.

Spanish Ministry of Industry has approved to build 61 concentrating solar thermal power plant in 11 provinces in their own country , most of which will be built in southern Spain.
